Last weekend when Kristin was getting her Jake fix visiting us in Annapolis, we decided to try our hand at a little floral arranging. I love the idea of being able to create high end centerpieces and arrangements on my own for parties and friends…not to mention saving a ton of dough at the same time! So, Kristin, being the obliging bestie that she is, indulged me and agreed to tackle the project even if it was a little late in the evening. Notice those black windows or my ever so slight, “I’ve had a glass of wine and boy is it late,” look in my eyes?
I had purchased these small yellow vases at Home Goods for $3.99 each. I really like that they are fairly low and small, perfect for most dinner party or end table situations. We then bought standard grocery store flowers, some floral foam and got started.
Step 1: We cut the foam to size and added some water.
Step 2: Next we inserted the largest blooms first.
Step 3: And then we added the medium blooms. This hyacinth was beautiful but smelled even better!
Step 4: Finally we added the greenery and smaller blooms.
Step 5: And Voila…the end result. Gorgeous spring centerpieces.
How perfect would these be for an Easter dinner?!
One thing we learned is not to go light on the greenery. In hindsight, we would have doubled up on it to really make the look more full. Also, adding blooms of varying heights can add visual interest so we could have amped that up a bit more as well. However, for our first floral DIY I’d call it a huge success! My kitchen table has never looked or smelled so good!
p.s. Today is the last day of the Top 25 Fashion & Beauty Moms contest! We’re hangin’ on by a thread and could really use your votes today!

Awww you two are so cute! And the flower arrangement looks great!

Very cool idea! The foam makes all the difference keeping the flowers in place instead of flopping around the vase. Definitely going to try it. Hope to see you tonight at the Fashion Industry Mixer. xoxo Natalia | http://www.fashionablylateblog.com
