Along with our partners, Momtrends and Glamamom, I would like to welcome you to another edition of Monday Mingle, our fun, fashion focused, link up!
I have a special treat for you today lovelies! My friend Stephanie from Deal Divas and I are participating in a style challenge and we decided to switch blogs to spice things up a bit. Our mission was to style the maxi skirt. So, without further adieu…here is Stephanie’s take on the maxi skirt!
I was excited to tackle a maxi skirt because I knew it would be a challenge. I’m a microscopic five feet tall, and I knew anything too shroud-like would swallow me whole, especially if it had a busy pattern. While shopping, I kept two things in mind.
1. I wanted it to be solid, or at least dark so I could pair it with a monochromatic top and elongate my Bilbo Baggins frame.
2. Let’s be honest. This trend is not a brazen new discovery on par with stellar nucleosynthesis. This is a long skirt, folks, and we’ve seen her before. If Reality Bites taught us anything, it’s that the 90s vomited this skirt all over the fashion-wearing world. And if my vast bargain shopping experience taught me anything, it’s that the 90s are alive and well in the nation’s thrift stores.
I went to my favorite such shop, Second Image in Pinellas Park, Florida. It’s big and well-stocked with a good mix of the vintage, the new and the totally inexplicable. Sure enough, I found this black (black!!) gem in the racks for $3, instantly validating all my hopes, dreams and theories and giving my wallet a break. Great success!
I paired it with a black Charlotte Russe tank, a New York and Company denim jacket Michael Kors wrap platform sandals. I also added a string of beads I also snagged at Second Image for $3, and my big blue aviators, $2 from the Dillard’s clearance bin. Hey, we aren’t called Deal Divas for nothing!
What do you think? Did I fend off the general Hobbitry or should I stick to short skirts?
Thanks to the BonBon Rose Girls for swapping outfits with us! Be sure to check out Kristin’s maxi skirt look over at Deal Divas. And we’d love to have you back again! Very cute! I love that she totally embrace the maxi skirt even though she is a bit petite.
It seems like a lot of shorter girls are afraid to try maxis, but Stephanie has shown that it can work on people of any height!

Nooo, I love it! Totally rocker. At 5’2″ I have the same challenges with fit and maxis.

It looks great! I haven’t embraced the maxi skirt trend, but I think I could pull this off! Love the denim jacket and funky glasses, which definitely updates the look

I love this look! Maxis with denim jackets can do no wrong. And there is NOTHING more fabulous than channeling the 90s. Hehe. (Odd how for some reason nobody ever looked good in the fashion during the 90s, but now everyone seems to make it look cool…? That millennial touch, I guess!).

Maxi dresses are easy to pull off but a maxi skirt is not as easy in my opinion. Your friend did an awesome job and I like how she modernized it with the jean jacket and fun shades

Fun swap! I am all about the denim jacket also!

I’m a huge fan of the maxi and I love how you styled it with a classic denim jacket but fun blue shades.

Loving the look; good job; and the denim jacket is always a winner. I’m on the petite side myself, so the maxi skirt is a tricky one.
