Living Room Collage, Serene and Contemporary

It’s official.  I am in full on nesting mode.  Which means that I’ve been nagging and pushing to get projects finished and furniture purchased.  One room I really want to focus on is our living room.  I love the idea of a peaceful escape that is a no TV zone (you can see the last update here).  I’m trying to nudge myself in decor directions that are a little more outside of my comfort zone.  I’ve been so focused in recent years on making choices that will last us for the long haul that I’ve been crippled by indecision, as well as a fear of going too bold.

In the above living room collage, I wanted to pull together a look that pairs some timeless basics with unexpected punches, for a look that is still serene yet fun and modern.  Eventually, you might change out the accents but surely with that couch and coffee table, the main furniture is there to stay.

What do you think?  Is it a mission accomplished?  Love it or hate it?

Beautiful. I love the small touches of orange. I decided to use some orange and red in a my living room – in a nice way not a tacky 70′s way – and I love it. Very cheerful. Iwas looking to re-cover the couch and was going to choose chocolate brown but now I wil have to get out the swatches and see how grey looks.
And thank you for the lovely comment.

    The zebra rug is great.

The Mrs. would love to create a tv free room like that, but we just have too large of a family right now. Maybe in a decade or so, when the kids head off to college or whatever, she can make that happen.

That couch is absolute perfection! And I totally understand where you’re coming from ~ I just created a living room inspiration board with similar concepts ~ timeless pieces with accents for ‘punch’. Good luck!

Wow, from the looks of this inspiration board, its gonna be good! I don’t know you personally so I can’t say if it’s “you” or not, but its definitely modern chic. Love the greys with pops of orange. The mirror is a real scene stealer :)

My first thought was how much I love that chair, and I was so surprised to see that it’s from World Market! I’m also a big fan of that little table from West Elm. It was just on an episode of that HGTV show “The High-Low Project”. Overall I really like the look!
