Shopping My Closet

Monday, March 21, 2011

Don’t forget about my Budget Savvy Spring Fashion Live Chat tomorrow night at 8 PM EST over at the Frugal Living Community! It’s going to be loads of fun and I’m giving away a prize so good I want to keep it…HAHA! My co-host is the lovely Melissa from Stockpiling Moms. Like Meg and I, she also runs a blog with her bestie and if you love to save money, you’re going to love her blog!

Like everyone else, I’m all too aware of our fragile economy. I’m much more careful with my purchases these days and look to my closet first before I head out to the boutiques or hit up the internet to shop. What I’ve found in the past couple of months, is that I often have a forgotten piece in my wardrobe that can be reworked in a fresh, new way!

Remember these William Rast for Target skinny cargo pants  that I posted about a few months ago? Well, I wore them once and then totally forgot about them. Shame on me! They have loads of potential for spring don’t you think?!?

Here is my reworked skinny cargoes look  courtesy of a feminine, floral blouse, nude sandals and some killer jewelry. So, tell me lovelies…Do you have a piece in your closet that could use a little freshening up?

Skinny Cargoes Reworked

Created with Polyvore

Paul Joe printed top {$55}, Unionbay pant {$40}, TopShop peeptoe shoes {$130}, Pippa Small aqua jewelry {$2,400-Ok, so this is more dream than reality…A girl’s allowed to dream right?}, Dorothy Perkins chain jewelry {4.25 GBP}

Love this look! Sadly I have a lot of pieces in my wardrobe that can use a refresher, but I don’t have enough separates to do that XD So I’m going to have to do some shopping and make myself buy separates :/

This is my favorite way to wear my skinny cargos – dressed up a bit with a silk blouse and nude heels. I feel like I’m totally uncreative when it comes to remixing, but I’m working on it!

In the past few year, I’ve been working on attaining more “freshening up” pieces so that I can, in fact rework the other pieces!

I always get so excited when I find of piece of clothing I totally forgot about
I did that this weekend with a light weight cardi I had only worn once. It got shoved out of the way during the 30X30.

Love it, Kristin! I really need to go through my closet and figure out how to re-vamp some of my items!

The other thing I’ve been doing a lot of lately to save money is buying pre-owned items from ebay (such as my citizens of humanity jeans, which are super expensive otherwise)!

Great tip Tara…I don’t utilize Ebay enough!

Oh my, that ring is gorgeous. Yes, dream.
I think your fresh spring look hits the spot and the trends, and it’s true, there are so many things in our closet we like to forget are there in the pursuit of shiny, new things we can’t afford.

Love those cargos on you…they look SO expensive. I have seen the William Rast for Target jeans..but the cargos must have never made it to my local target…I would have TOTALLY scooped those bad boys up…I have total cargo envy..
I am envisioning soft ivory shirt with leopard pumps….outfit perfection!

Fantastic, I love the way you styled them. I need to do this more too and be careful of my spending because it is a little out of control at the moment. I think I have a really good wardrobe but I don’t use it to the full potential.

I am definitely guilty of forgetting items shortly after I buy them or wear them once. I love what you did with the skinny cargos once you were re-united with them!

Sorry you’re having trouble commenting on my blog, Kristen. I’ve heard it happen to a couple of other bloggers from time to time, but it seems to correct itself. I have no idea why this happens….I’m certainly not very technical. I hope you are able to again though. I really love hearing from you!

You’ve inspired me! I’m totally THAT woman who goes to the boutique, buys something and then goes home and finds the same piece a few weeks later. I really should rework certain items in my closet and make different looks for spring.

I love what you’ve done with the cargo pants! Great outfit.

I think I’m going to have to do the same with my Blank cargos and the loads of white blouses I own.

Such a great remix – I love the idea of making cargo pants more feminine with a blouse/accessories. I’ve been really frugal lately with my wardrobe, this is motivating me to explore what I already have to create a new outfit, for sure :)

Oh, I love that combo. If I didn’t own nude heels already I would totally go for those peep toe ones. Love the style.
I like your combo as well. Very sexy.
