Easy DIY, Photo Cards Two Ways

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

You know we’re about to go all holiday-like on ya over the next several weeks.  So before we get too holiday crazy, I thought I would share a little project I did a few weeks ago that was surprisingly easy!  And I have a little photo project my Mom did and sent my way as well.  That’s right, two DIY projects for the price of one post.  Now you know where I get my love for note cards!

For the photo cards I created I decided to use Floyd’s test prints.  We have a printer that prints very high quality pictures up to 11×17 inches.  But before he makes a large photo for someone, Floyd always does a few test prints that are 4×6.  Many times he’s just adjusting the color a teensy bit, but because he is a perfectionist when it comes to his work, he rejects the test prints that I think are still gorgeous.  So I decided that rather than letting those little beauty’s hit the trash, we could share them with others by turning them into cards.

All that was needed for this project were the test prints, Avery self-fold blank greeting cards from Staples, and photo stickers that you would use for making an album.  I spent $12.99 to make 20 cards.  Pretty sweet!

Its pretty self-explanatory, but what I did to make the card was first fold the card where it indicated.  Then I placed a few of the photo stickers to the back of the photo being used, and then I centered it on the front of the card.

Voila!  Pretty greeting cards, sure to make anyone happy to peek inside their mailbox.

So that was my take on photo cards, but my Mom had a take all her own.  While staying as a guest at her friend Paulette’s house, she took a photo of this delicious spread and cute table setting.  She then placed the image on 1/4 of an 8 1/2 x 11 card-stock.  Then where the back of the card would be she printed in a scripty font, “Paulette’s Kitchen. Where laughter and good conversation are always on the menu.” She then sent a set as a thank-you for her visit.  How sweet is that?!

There you have it.  DIY projects made simple yet personal!  Of course this can be customized a million ways to incorporate the holidays or in your own personal way.  Maybe you have photos of your dog dressed up as Santa or that you’ve just been meaning to print out from a special day.  Either way, your friends will love getting such a personal note!

I love that – I take pictures of my friends and I when I stay at their house/get together, then send thank you cards with the picture of us on the front. Not nearly as beautiful as the images above, but similar idea – they have all loved it :)
