Megan’s Family Room Tour

Thursday, August 26, 2010

It’s a Vlog.  For some reason I just love that word and can’t help but say it in my head over and over. Vlog, vlog, vlog.  Today’s post is a walk through our living room sharing what we’ve done so far to decorate the space.  There is still a giant blank wall just calling out for some love so any thoughts or suggestions are welcome, no matter how out there they may sound.  We are all ears over here.  I promise!  Unless you want me to create a dolphin mural.  That may be crossing the line.

Megan, your family room looks so cozy, and definitely chic! I like how simple the decorations are, and it’s very neat – the uncluttered feel is nice! I was talking about v-logs on my blog last night too. I definitely want to start incorporating more video into my site.

Megan your living room looks warm and inviting. LOVE that pillow (would go great with my wall of blue and white plates, on a wall.)

YOUR TV IS HUUUUUGE! I think anything on the wall would just look like clutter, and the room is is streamlined and sleek. My millionaire advice (lol) is that the piece the TV sits on needs to be more commanding, not so tiny in comparison to the behemoth boob tube.

Thanks for sharing your home with us. Nice to see real people living real (good) lives. xo. -Bella Q

The room looks great! I love the paint color. I have no idea what to do with your wall as I have the same question in regards to our tv. I’ve left it blank but it needs a little something.

Love the video! I wish I could design and decorate my own place. Maybe one day. :)

I agree with a previous comment that something larger and more architectural for the TV to sit on might provide some interest to the eye. Or you could do some sort of large nautical/water themed decal on the right side of the TV. I have put up 2 decals in the last 6 months and I LOVE them! You can see what mine look like under “decorating” on my blog :) Good luck! Decorating is such an ongoing process!

Ahh love how you decorated the space, it is so warm with the wall colour – any kind of beige/browns combined with blues means I’m automatically sold. Thanks for vlogging ;)

Go, JCPenney! I’m always telling people to check out their home section here in Manhattan as you can get great looks for really low prices. I love the room, so comfortable and good looking, fabulous vlog!

Loved the tour of your space. And love that you’ve found a way to put your own touches on that space. I’m in agreement with others that a larger piece of furniture might help tame the wall. Also? What about painting it as an accent wall … maybe a darker version of the blue in your curtains?

Very nice.
I was also going to suggest a decal.
Two large topiary’s or columns.

Love the room!
I think some really cool wall mounted shelves on that wall would look great.

Clean, architectural, linear. What do you think?

Your room looks great! I’m looking at the wall our entertainment center is on and it’s completely blank as well so I obviously have no ideas :)

What a fun Vlog. I’m a fan of triangulation of color. I love the pop of orange/red in the cruise railing photo. I think it would be great to have a throw in that color over the arm of the chair in the corner and maybe a fun candle stick/vase/object d’art in another area. 3 pieces/areas of the “pop color”. I think you could do something great with wall words over the TV. You can order custom phrases from a site like wallwords.com. Another option would be to buy a can of glaze (not paint, just glaze). Mask off with tape and paint broad stripes in the glaze over the base color and you’ll get a subtle flat/sheen/flat/sheen strip.

Ach, it keeps buffering! At any rate, I love the couch pillows. I have a swatch of that suzani fabric because I contemplated it for a valance, only to discover that the print was too big for my purposes.

Megan,
Love your family room. As for the wall with the tv- I think less is more sometimes with decor. One thing my husband & I did in our family room to take away from the tv as the focal point was added a Pottery Barn shelf on the wall a few feet above our tv and a few plants on the shelf. Maybe a plate on an easel that has the accent colors of the room on it. Hope you have fun adding to your beautiful space.
